“These include sales-related roles across industries, as well as jobs in engineering, ICT, retail, marketing, communications, accounting and finance,” he says.
Moyano is a firm believer that those who are most successful in their career do not just “fall into” the roles.
“Unlike big dreamers, they approach their career goals with a clear action plan,” he says.
Those goals should be SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and timely), and should be cognisant of the current environment when deciding if it’s worth waiting around for their next promotion.
“Promotions are no longer linked to years of experience. Rather, progressive companies promote their employees on merit and proven capabilities. Employees should really only push for a step up if they are already performing the responsibilities of the next levelin addition to their current role for at least three months. This will ensure they not setting themselves up for failure, and have the right experience to be effective in the promoted role from the get go.”
