This year’s Gold Coast co-captains Steven May and Tom Lynch will next year play against one another, and most likely on one another, on Anzac eve when Melbourne and Richmond meet.


There will be eight Thursday night games in 2019 – one more than this year. Richmond will play three of those games, Collingwood, Essendon and Adelaide playing two each.


More five-day breaks have enabled the increase but Auld said while there were two more Thursday night games next year and the AFL liked the games because of the momentum they gave into a round, he doubted the number of Thursday games would continue to increase significantly in future.
