However youngster David Cuningham (hamstring) has been ruled out for the remainder of the season.

At the tribunal, Curnow did not dispute match review officer Michael Christian’s classification of the May incident as low impact and high contact, only challenging on the matter of intent.

Curnow gave evidence that he was waiting for May to kick in, and that after the Gold Coast co-captain opted to kick to himself, the Blue “just wanted to put some pressure on the kick”.

Curnow said that he had initially hoped to smother May’s kick, but realising he would not be able to do that, wanted to put May off balance, and therefore aimed for the defender’s shoulder.

Footage of the incident showed that Suns backman Rory Thompson made contact with Curnow, who claimed Thompson’s shove “puts me off balance”, making it harder for Curnow to control where he hit May.
