Waratahs stand up to be counted when it counts most

The fire isn’t gone from Bernard Foley, Michael Hooper, Adam Ashley-Cooper, Kurtley Beale, Sekope Kepu and Rob Simmons yet.

Foley’s actually one of the toughest players in Australia. He had no right to get up from that horrible midair collision in the second half that saw him land on his upper back. Yet it didn’t stop him from committing completely to every subsequent tackle. If you think that anyone else is going to wear that Wallabies No.10 jersey at the Rugby World Cup you are living on Jeff Bezos’ space colony.

That’s not to say Quade Cooper played badly. He didn’t. And he showed real physical commitment, but Foley is an intense competitor who got a rare rev-up from Daryl Gibson before the game and responded.

However, the main player we have to talk about here is Simmons. He has made many, many people eat their words this year, including me.

Yes, there was one knock on late in the second half after Reece Hodge basically threw his body into contact in what was a tough game, but Simmons was excellent, again.
