Wantaway Watene-Zelezniak could make way for rising Penrith stars

The Panthers will need to offload restless New Zealand captain Dallin Watene-Zelezniak before June 30 to open up a roster spot as two of their most exciting prospects face being banished back to the Canterbury Cup.


Rising stars Mitch Kenny and Brent Naden, who were pivotal in the dogged win over the Sea Eagles on Thursday night, have needed NRL exemptions in recent weeks to make their top-grade debuts.

But with Wayde Egan and Malakai Watene-Zelezniak on the cusp of returns from injury, Kenny and Naden could face a harsh demotion as they are not members of Ivan Cleary’s top 30 roster.


The NRL can grant approval for clubs to select players from outside their top 30 if no other fit players are available in a particular position.
