This is the photograph that Australian Netball World Cup squad member Jamie-Lee Price says is proof that dreams can come true.

In 2007 – two years after her father, Steve, joined the New Zealand Warriors NRL team – Price was thrilled to lead the Australian netball team into the arena for the opening ceremony of the World Cup tournament in Auckland.

Twelve years on Price will be a key member of the Diamonds team as they look to defend their world crown in England next month.

Price said she and netball legend Liz Ellis have a vastly different recollection of their brief conversation before marching out on that night in 2007.

“Liz said to me, ‘you’re going to play for Australia aren’t you?’ I was so nervous I can’t remember what I said,” recalled Price before Sunday’s match between her Giants and Adelaide.

“She says I said I wanted to play for New Zealand – but that’s a lie! It’s always been my dream
to represent Australia.”

The Giants mid-courter was immersed in the Kiwi system and even trialled for the Silver Ferns before returning to Australia where her talent was quickly identified by selectors.
