Israel Folau was on the verge of reaching a peace deal with Rugby Australia and deleting the controversial social media post that ended his Wallabies career before a warning from his father changed his mind, according to reports.

The former Wallabies star was sacked this month for an Instagram post on April 10 that was deemed as vilifying the gay community.

Amid widespread backlash and a drawn-out tussle with Rugby Australia over the post, Folau was reportedly ready to take down the post in a bid to hold onto his contract before he phoned his father Eni Folau, a Christian pastor.

Eni Folau reportedly said his son would be disowning the words of God if he removed the post, which referenced a Bible passage that warned “drunks, homosexuals, adulterers, liars, fornicators, thieves, atheists, idolaters” would go to hell unless they repented.
