Schrinner pledge of greener suburbs 'nothing new', Labor says

“Residents love Brisbane for its open green spaces and shady boulevards, and in the coming financial year we have allocated $22.8 million towards planting and maintaining trees across the suburbs, which is an increase of $4.4 million or about 25 per cent,” he said.


“We are continuing to provide more than 40,000 free native trees to residents each year to help us increase the level of natural green cover across the city from 37 to 40 per cent by 2031.”


Cr Cumming (Wynnum Manly), however, said the promises were “nothing new” and based on council programs that already existed.


“The free native plants program has been going for decades, it’s nothing new,” he said.


“The lord mayor hasn’t had an original thought in his life and the LNP administration is running out of ideas.”
