Geary, a key figure in the Saints set up, was carried off the ground midway through the final quarter after he appeared to kick his own leg as he ran down and laid a tackle on Port youngster Connor Rozee. He clutched his leg in pain and could not put any weight on it has he was assisted from the ground.

Coach Alan Richardson was so concerned about the health of his captain and team leader that he left his position on the bench and went to the rooms to check on him.

’’He’s gone off to get X-rays from the hospital,’’ said Richardson.

’’He walked out okay,’’ said the under pressure Saint Kilda coach, expressing early hopes that reports of a broken fibula might prove false.
