SA's Symonds firms as Collingwood AFLW coach

Collingwood are on the verge of announcing a new AFLW coach, with South Australian Steve Symonds firming as Wayne Siekman’s replacement.

Two months after the Magpies announced that Siekman’s contract would not be renewed after three seasons at the Holden Centre, the Pies are in the final stages of their recruitment process.

The Age understands that Symonds, who coaches Norwood in the SANFLW competition, as well as being the coach of Norwood’s academy, has been squarely in the mix to take over the job at Collingwood.

Symonds has an extensive coaching history in South Australia, having also worked for Sturt and Glenelg. He was also previously the development manager for AFLNT.

Bec Goddard, who coached Adelaide to the 2017 AFLW premiership, entered the race for the Magpies job, but has missed out, as was the case when she applied for the Gold Coast senior women’s coaching job, which ultimately went to Queenslander David Lake.
