The tribunal found mitigating factors were that the teacher cooperated with the investigation, so the boy did not have to give evidence, and the “most serious conduct” happened after the boy had graduated.


However, the tribunal found the teacher had not “expressed insight or remorse” into her behaviour and did not concede that her behaviour “falls short of any relevant standard”.


The tribunal also found the teacher attempted to “shift the power imbalance” by saying the boy asked to kiss her, when there was an inherent power imbalance with her role giving her authority over the boy.


“We are of the view that [the teacher’s] behaviour showed a pattern of serious boundary violations over an extended period, aggravated by her lack of insight and remorse,” the tribunal found.


“She placed her own feelings above her paramount duties to uphold standards and maintain public confidence in the teaching profession.
