The storms rolled in only before sunset, bringing 8mm of sleet and dozens of lightning strikes and forcing a termination of a 8pm aerial flyover display.


Thousands began camping out on Monday morning to get a best vantage points, with some, such as American integrate John and Karla Boston, nearing in a early hours to secure a mark in front of a Opera House.


“We left midnight from Port Macquarie and gathering in and got right in line about 4am,” Mr Boston said. “People have told us it is improved on TV though we wish to hear a boom.”


Temperatures rose to 30 degrees on Monday with revellers fast wet conditions as they waited.
