Police say NYE crowd behaviour was 'terrific' with 15 people arrested

Thirteen arrests were of young people aged between 14 and 17. They were largely caught by police drinking alcohol in a public place, Detective Superintendent Calatzis said.

“We are constantly worried about the health of our young people and we want them to, in the future, consume alcohol responsibly. If they’re doing this at this age, it shows irresponsibility and more so potential vulnerability on their behalf,” he said.

Police also detected two drones at the event, which was declared drone free by the ACT government.

The drone operators will be referred by police to the Civil Aviation Safety Authority, and will likely face infringement notices, Detective Superintendent Calatzis said.
