'Something hasn’t gone to plan': Subiaco bar suffers minor damage in suspected arson

But as the bar was full of flammable materials such as liquor and part of a larger building housing other businesses — including the Nova radio studios on the floor above — Senior Constable Pollock said the situation could have turned out much worse.


“There’s fire marks on the floor and minimal damage to furnishings — chairs, stools — but no structural damage whatsoever,” he said.


“At this stage there is CCTV in the premises … we’re unable to access that at this time so in the meantime we’re appealing to the public.”


Senior Constable Pollock described the attempted arson as “very random, very amateur”; the alleged arsonists broke into the bar through a rear glass door but the fire didn’t take hold.


“The actual fire is minimal — something hasn’t gone to plan,” he said.
