Dave Sharma preselected to run again in Wentworth

Liberal candidate Dave Sharma will have a second crack at the seat of Wentworth, with the party endorsing him as its best chance to snatch back the once blue-ribbon seat from independent Kerryn Phelps.


Mr Sharma was preselected for the seat on Friday night, just six weeks after he lost to Dr Phelps in the Wentworth byelection in October – an ignominious defeat for the Liberal Party which, along with its conservative predecessors, had held the seat since Federation.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison, who frequently accompanied Mr Sharma on the hustings in the byelection, said he was “looking forward” to campaigning with him again.


“Dave Sharma is an outstanding Liberal who has already got things done for the people of Wentworth, and would do even more as part of our government,” Mr Morrison tweeted on Saturday.
