Two stabbed in fight on popular Fitzroy night strip

Two men were stabbed during a fight on a popular inner-city night strip early on Saturday.


Police believe the fight broke out on Smith St, Fitzroy, around 1.30am. Paramedics arrived to find two men with knife wounds, one in a serious condition.


A 36-year-old man from Travancore was stabbed multiple times, and was taken to the Royal Melbourne hospital with injuries to his upper and lower body.


He is in a stable condition, but is expected to undergo surgery.


The second man, a 19-year-old from Mulgrave, received just one stab wound. He was taken to the Royal Melbourne in a stable condition, but has since been released.


Police want to speak to two men and a woman who were seen in the area at the time of the incident.


They do not believe these three and the injured men are known to each other.
