“He is a big colt, so we were getting ready to wait until he was a three-year-old but we gave him one last go and he was pretty good at Wyong.”


Exceedance went back to near last at Wyong, giving up nearly 10 lengths before flying to victory and breaking 34 seconds for his last 600m. It was a win that had Tommy Berry thinking of better races in the spring.


“He has given me the feel of a horse that can go to a lot bigger heights than he is at now, but you can get a bit carried away after horses have their first start,” Berry said.


“They can go out and run like he did then take a bit of time to reach their potential.


“He could be well and truly like that but if he goes out and shows me what he did his first start then I would be disappointed if he is not in the finish.”
