“Of course, we look at sports around the world – but every sport is different so we also try and balance that off with staying true to what rugby league is, and being really authentic,” he says.


“It’s not Australia’s answer to the Super Bowl but we draw inspiration from events around the world, while always trying to think about what’s right for our fans.”


Abdo says at the end of the day, he and his team are in the entertainment business – and like any big event, the grand final is all about putting on a good show.


“Our theme and our vision for the grand final this year was that it’s bigger than a game,” he says. “It’s not just about the two teams that made it, it’s also about celebrating what rugby league is all about, which is bringing people together and the sense of community.”
