The Australian Opals are back among the world’s elite, now they have a little under two years to find a way to beat the United States at the Tokyo Olympics.

The Opals claimed the silver medal following a 73-56 loss, while hosts Spain earlier beat out Belgium for the bronze medal, 67-60.

This was the seventh straight title at an Olympics or World Cup for the Americans since the Opals won what were then known as the World Championships in 2006.

US star Breanna Stewart was named tournament MVP over Liz Cambage and they joined Diana Taurusi (US), Astou Ndour (Spain) and Emma Meesseman (Belgium) in the all-star five.
