Her alleged killer has been charged but police are still attempting to establish how Brisbane teenager Larissa Beilby’s body wound up inside a barrel north of the Gold Coast.

Zlatko Sikorsky, 34, was on Sunday charged with murder and misconduct of a corpse after being arrested on Saturday following a 28-hour siege on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.

Sikorsky will face Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Monday accused of killing the 16-year-old high school student.

Police however said their investigation was very much ongoing with the cause of Larissa’s death yet to be determined and question marks over how many people helped Sikorsky.

The wanted 34-year-old Zlatko Sikorsky has surrendered to Queensland Police.

A 40-year-old woman and a 38-year-old man have already been charged with being accessories after the fact to murder and will both face Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Monday.

But detectives told reporters on Sunday they were still investigating if Sikorsky received additional help.

“Information is still vital to the investigation,” Inspector Damien Hansen said.

“His movements. His connection to Larissa. We’re interested in hearing from any person.”

‘Darling angel’

Larissa Beilby’s family confirmed the teenager was dead, posting a heartfelt statement on Facebook.

“With a broken heart shattered into more than a million pieces our family is utterly destroyed to inform you all that Larissa has been taken from us,” sister Deanna posted on behalf of her family.

“Our beautiful girl has been reunited with our beloved wife and mother. Fly high our darling angel, until we see you again Rissy.”

Police have been investigating the disappearance of 16-year-old Larissa Beilby.

She was last seen by family members at a home in Brisbane’s northern suburbs on June 15, and was reported missing by her father, Peter Beilby, on Tuesday.

The following day police went to a house at Buccan, south of Brisbane, as part of their inquiries.

As they arrived at the property a man drove off in a black ute.

The ute was later located inside a gated community at Stapylton, north of the Gold Coast, with Larissa’s body inside a barrel on the ute’s tray.

The location of the body sparked a manhunt for Sikorsky who was located on Friday afternoon at a unit at Alexandra Headland on the Sunshine Coast.

After more than a day of negotiations, Sikorsky was arrested without incident on Saturday evening.

Superintendent Mark White told reporters police had been “actively trying” to find Sikorsky before the body’s discovery as he was wanted on a return to prison warrant.

Supt White praised investigators as well as the public for the swift arrest of Sikorsky.

“Seventy-two hours after we commenced the investigation we had a male person in custody, so from our perspective it’s been very successful,” he said.
