After a bad semi-final loss to Italy in 2012, in which his tactics were harshly criticised, Loew was silent in public for some 46 days only to eventually state: “The way which we have chosen is correct. There is no reason to change this concept.”
Loew was proved correct two years later with the World Cup triumph in Brazil.
This time, sticking is not an option. Fans, and the DFB, are demanding action.
“At the level of the national team, change above all means to introduce young players,” said DFB president Reinhard Grindel said.
It is only after Loew’s future is certain that senior players from the squad are expected to announce their own plans.
