RACE 5 – 3.50PM: OLLIE’S SECURITY CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1200m)
Goulburn mare 1. Designer Dance is full of promise, and was scratched from Goulburn last Monday to be saved for firmer track. Flew home on debut here, and then confirmed that run again finishing fast to win at second start as a short-priced favourite. Sneaking up in weight, but drawn to get plenty of cover back in the field before charging home.
Dangers: Canberra mare 2. Enjoy The Stars seems to perform better when positioned on-pace, and third-up this prep should be in the finish. Albury mare 3. Nicconi Poni is screaming to win after running a strong of placings late last year and first two runs back this prep while Kembla four-year-old 5. Direct Default won his maiden three back at Queanbeyan, then just missed at Nowra before taking on a decent field in heavy ground at home and wasn’t far away. Will need luck from a wide gate, but capable over this trip.
How to play it: Designer Dance to win.
RACE 6 – 4.25PM: HUNTSMAN RECRUITING CLASS 2 HANDICAP (SCALED -0.5kg, 1400m)
Good race, with several chances. Albury mare 6. Cathanda is flying at the moment and was a big market firmer winning a BM58 over this trip last start. Races are generally spaced, and drawn again to get cover back in the field and saved for one late burst.
Dangers: Victorian gelding 2. Inglesias hasn’t quite gone on with the job up to BM64 level after winning his maiden this track three runs back, but hard fit for leading stable. Local gelding 3. Jaytee’s The Fox was rewarded for some consistent closing form bolting in a weaker race at Corowa last start, but draws wide for this tougher test while resuming Canberra gelding 4. Battle Fury normally takes one run before showing his best, but has had a recent trial, and cant be under-estimated for leading stable. Canberra filly 7. Mookareena took on stronger and beaten less than five lengths in the listed Canberra Guineas last start, and better suited here.
How to play it: Cathanda each way and trifecta 2-4-6/2-3-4-6-7.
