Mason Cox challenging one game ban

Mason Cox is still hopeful of playing in Saturday night’s grand final rematch against West Coast, with the club set to challenge his one match ban at the tribunal.

Cox was charged with rough conduct in last Thursday’s win over Richmond and handed the suspension by match review officer Michael Christian, a decision that prompted a heated response from the players’ fraternity.

The off-the-ball incident involving Richmond defender Dylan Grimes saw Cox appear to block Grimes, with the star Tiger believed to have reported concussion symptoms to club medicos after the hit.

Christian assessed the incident as intentional conduct with low impact to the head, resulting in a one match suspension.

Given the impact the hit had on Grimes, the Magpies are likely to argue that the collision was just that and invovled no wrongdoing from Cox and therefore shouldn’t have been deemed a reportable offence.

More to come …
