Week in, week out they’re the team most experts appear reluctant to tip, but the NSW Swifts struck another mighty blow for ‘street cred’ at Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena on Sunday with a booming 16-point victory against the highly rated Collingwood Magpies.

By halftime, the Swifts had regained their lead on the Super Netball competition ladder on the back of the two bonus points after dominating the opening two quarters. By the time the fulltime siren sounded, they’d extended that lead (over second-placed Melbourne Vixens) by seven points.

Skipper Maddy Proud had no problem in summing up what the win meant for her team, a unit that has been described as the “young” side of the competition since it formed in 2017.

“I think it says we’re a force to be reckoned with,” enthused Proud. “Some people probably thought we fluked [our win] against the Vixens [last weekend]. But I think this result shows we can win consistently, and that we can put out good four-quarter performances.”
