Giants honour tragedy with triumph over Thunderbirds

The Giants were desperate for a strong showing against Adelaide after being swamped in the second half of last weekend’s loss to the Sunshine Coast. And, they produced it in front of a cheering crowd of 10,635 who’d turned out to Qudos Arena for the double-header.

With four key intercepts at wing defence, star rookie Amy Parmenter was named MVP for the second time this season, but she was well supported by her teammates.

Diamonds skipper Caitlin Bassett was in sweet form, nailing 32 of her 35 shots at goal, while Jo Harten’s 33 helped her reach a thousand (career) Super Netball goals.

Harten admitted securing a berth in the top four provided the Giants with some welcome breathing space. “We’ve been a bit hit and miss for the first part of the season, but this was a good win,” she said. “It mightn’t have been reflected on the scoreboard, but Adelaide really took the game to us.”
