Cleary and present danger: Fittler's biggest problem in Origin opener

When the ball does begin to move on Wednesday night, expect the Blues bandwagon to have a left-hand drive. Souths’ left edge has been responsible for most of its tries these past couple of years and Walker is the go-to man after Reynolds has parked the team in an attacking position. Outside Walker, on the Blues’ left edge, will be the lethal Roosters combination of second rower Boyd Corner and centre Latrell Mitchell, with speedster Josh Addo Carr on the wing. Fullback, James Tedesco, also prefers to join the attack on the left.

Similarly, the Maroons’ left-hand side has a go-to man in five eighth Cameron Munster, who receives the majority of the ball at his club, Melbourne. Queensland’s fullback, the mercurial Kalyn Ponga, is also a southpaw side attacking player.

It will be tempting for Kevvy to link Munster with his left centre at the Storm, Will Chambers, who is playing well this season after a suspension-punctuated 2018 season when he played on the right. Chambers is lighter, stronger and more agile and has transitioned well to the left side, even cleaning his teeth and writing with his left hand in order to make himself a more ambidextrous player.

But Queensland’s other centre, Michael Morgan, played left-hand side, with Chambers on the right, in Munster’s debut game for the Maroons, a 22-6 victory over NSW in the third game of 2017. With Chambers defence being so strong this season and NSW’s left side strike so scary, it is likely Chambers will revert to the right side for the Maroons. Experienced centre Josh Morris has been recalled to representative football and he will play on the Blues right.
