Tom Magnier, Coolmore’s Australian boss, bought Anthony Van Dyck dam Believe ‘N’ Succeed for $1.1 million in foal to Fastnet Rock at the Magic Millions broodmare sale in 2014. She was sent to Ireland and her first foal from a mating with Galileo is now a Derby winner.

“It is one of the most satisfying moments for the team over here to see a mare we paid big money for produce a Derby winner,” Magnier said. “The boys at Ballydoyle have done a great job with him and it is a team effort that has everyone excited.”

This year’s Magic Millions broodmare sale finished on Friday, grossing more than $100 million once again, with Coolmore a major player at the top end of the market. However, the mares they bought will be staying in Australia this year.

“We have targeted mares for [unbeaten Triple Crown winner[ Justify and he is going to have one of the best books of mares to see a first stallion ever,” Magnier said.
