“It’s strange, but we enjoy being a part of it.”

For his part, Walker wants it known that Cook has been a huge part of his success and a big reason why he’ll become the oldest NSW debutant five-eighth. But in the same breath he is at pains to points out why Adam Reynolds, Sam Burgess, John Sutton, Braidon Burns and others have been very bit as crucial to his Origin ascent.

Yet it’s hard to think of a better one-two punch than Cook and Walker cutting a swathe through an opposition middle, which they’ll try and do again at Suncorp Stadium on Wednesday night.

Remarkably, there is no physical cue for when they’ll combine. Walker has watched Cook enough now to know when he has to be there. He might whisper a word or two behind the ruck, but that’s about it.
