Joyce is still weighing up his options for a replacement at full-back for De Laet – he can either use Olyroo wing-back Nathaniel Atkinson, who has had considerable first team experience, or instead try the younger and far less exposed Dylan Pierias.


Atkinson played 70 minutes during the week in a training game for the national under-23 side, so he is likely to be more tired than the fresh Pierais. But the latter’s lack of big-game know-how against such redoubtable opponents could make him a gamble Joyce is reluctant to take.


”Our defence has done well this season. But it gives other lads opportunities. It’s a game everyone wants to play in,” says Joyce.


”Players who have had to train all the time are grateful for chances.


”La Rocca, he’s a good man, an experienced player, a good pro, he trains hard every day.
