Kirkpatrick was on a completely different path in life, saying she ditched a career in finance to travel to France in 2005 to learn more about the history of champagne from industry legends and small growers of the precious drink.


Her eloquence and champagne expertise saw her win a role as a brand ambassador for Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy’s champagne brands, including Clicquot, Kurg, Dom Perignon and Moet and Ruinart in Sydney, before striking out on her own as The Champagne Dame in 2008.


Put a cork in it


Fellow champagne educator Jayne Powell, better known as Champagne Jayne, wants to point out, however, that she has already been crowned Australia’s first Champagne Dame, having been awarded the Dame Chevalier de L’Ordre des Coteaux de Champagne (Champagne Dame) medal in France in 2012 in recognition of her global efforts in the sector.


Powell has been engaged to speak about champagne around the world, has written a successful book on the subject and won numerous awards for promoting the bubbly since 2003.
