The 49-year-old was charged with the 18-year-old’s murder on Thursday, 14 months after being charged with the murders of Ms Rimmer, 23, and Ms Glennon, 27, who disappeared in similar circumstances in 1996 and 1997 respectively.

Ms Rimmer and Ms Glennon’s bodies were found in bushland in the weeks following their deaths. Ms Spiers’ body has never been found.

Ms Glennon’s father Denis Glennon was also in court for the hearing, as was Lee Rimmer, the sister of Jane.

State prosecution lawyer Carmel Barbagallo told the court police were trawling through more than 1.5 million pages of evidence in relation to the charges.

“The earliest of the charges go back in excess of 30 years… four of the complainants go back in excess 22 years… we have to review all material and redact anything sensitive,” she said.
