ACT rugby stars Lachlan Lonergan and Seamus Smith have been named named in the Australian Schoolboys starting XV to face Fiji in Sydney on Monday.

The duo were selected after starring in the ACT Schoolboys drought-breaking national championship win earlier this year.

Lonergan returns to the squad after making his Australian debut last year alongside brother and ACT Brumbies scrumhalf Ryan Lonergan.

The hooker said playing for Australia with his brother was an experience he’ll never forget and the 18-year-old added he cannot wait to get back out there again.

“It was pretty special, not too many people get to do it and we had a great time, it was pretty awesome,” Lonergan said.

“It’s pretty exciting being back in the team, it’s not as nerve-racking as last year but it’s still obviously very tough.”

Smith said getting selected into the national team was a dream come true and the budding scrumhalf wants to make the most of his time in green and gold.

“It’s an amazing feeling, I was just stoked to be in the ACT team so getting called up in the Australian team was just the cherry on top, it’s unreal,” Smith said.

“It’s been a lifelong dream, you want to cherish the moment playing for your country, so I guess I’ll take every moment as it comes, really embrace it and try and play my best footy possible.”

After taking on Fiji the Australian side will stay in camp and shift their focus to New Zealand who they face the following week.

Lonergan is one of two remaining players from the 2016 team and is eager to see what another two weeks playing with and against the world’s best will do to his game.

“There are obviously going to be some big bodies out there. The Fiji guys like their offloads so we’re expecting that to be a fast flowing game and the New Zealand one will just be extremely tough and physical,” Lonergan said.

“It’s pretty awesome having such good players around you who are always challenging you, it’s great for my footy and hopefully I’ll be better for it.”

ACT products Tom Iles, Lachlan Osborn, Lincoln Smith and William Goddard have all been named in the Australian Barbarians to face New Zealand on Monday.
