Jurors have reached a verdict in the trial of a former Minneapolis police officer who shot and killed an unarmed Australian woman.

The jury of 10 men and two women took less than one day to reach their decision.

The verdict will be announced soon.

Court officers alerted lawyers, prosecutors and media to attend the downtown Minneapolis courtroom.

“The jury has reached a verdict, so please proceed to the courtroom immediately,” the message from the court states.

Mohamed Noor was charged with murder and manslaughter for the 2017 death of life coach Justine Damond Ruszczyk, 40, who had called 911 to report a possible rape in the alley behind her home.

Noor testified he shot Ms Damond Ruszczyk, formerly of Sydney, after he heard a bang on his squad car, saw his partner was scared, then saw Ms Damond Ruszczyk at his partner’s window raising her arm.

Prosecutors said Noor, 33, acted unreasonably and the shooting wasn’t justified. Noor was fired after he was charged.
