The Waratahs have confirmed the departure of assistant coach Simon Cron at season’s end and concede his decision to take an opportunity in Japan will leave a “big hole” at the club.
As revealed by the Herald on Monday, Cron has accepted a role with Japanese Top League club Toyota Verblitz as head coach once his Waratahs commitments finish at the end of the Super Rugby season.

Many believed Cron would take over the NSW head coaching role once Daryl Gibson departed but it seems a one-year contract extension for the former All Black until the end of 2020 left Cron wanting to explore options elsewhere.
Cron, who steered Norths to a Shute Shield title in 2016 and then took over the Australian under-20s side, will work under All Blacks coach Steve Hansen, who is set to take a director of rugby role at the franchise.
