“I asked about his suspension when I was about to sign off on the [squad] list. They told me that his suspension is over. Maybe they mis-spoke, but I didn’t ask them,” BCB president Nazmul Hassan said earlier this week. He did not elaborate who had passed him the information.

He was sanctioned for abusing a fan on social media last year having only just completed a suspension for physically assaulting a fan in a first-class game in December 2017. That indiscretion resulted in a six-month from domestic cricket, a fine around $30,000 and the loss of his central contract.

“This is his last chance. If he does the same thing again, he will get a life ban,” Hassan said. “I felt that maybe he would have done better had he taken more time to return. Now it is very risky for him. A small mistake can destroy his career.”

Lucky Waugh

Mark Waugh had an unfortunate slip of the tongue earlier in the week and took offence to a few punters on Twitter who claimed he was a serial offender. Speaking about Brendon McCullum and his passion for horse racing, Waugh accidentally blurted out that the Brisbane Heat batsman was a “lucky c—” before quickly correcting himself to say “lucky punter”.
