The NSW Waratahs survived an ugly Australian rugby derby to beat the ACT Brumbies on Saturday night, but it could come at a huge cost after Israel Folau played just four minutes before getting injured.

The Waratahs will sweat on Folau’s scan results after being forced to leave the field in the opening minutes, turning straight to the bench as he clutched at his hamstring.

Folau is expected to be ruled out for as long as four weeks, leaving the Waratahs to try to find a way to replace one of the most dangerous attacking weapons in international rugby.

The Waratahs regrouped in Canberra to score a 24-17 win, snapping a four-game losing streak on the road largely thanks to a Taqele Naiyaravoro double and Bernard Foley’s boot.
