I am as concerned about climate change as the next person but the reality is that for many people they cannot think beyond how they are going to feed, clothe and look after their family’s needs (Letters, August 31).
Much as they may wish to be idealistic and embrace being environmentally aware, they cannot think further than the next bill and when that bill is for electricity, then they don’t care whether the electricity is generated by renewables or coal, they just want to be able to pay it.
The bleeding hearts should stop assuming that all Australians want renewables and large emission controls: they just want affordable basics. – Sue Durman, Pyrmont
