Mr Dick said he had visited a waste to energy company in Ipswich and the state needed to look at the industry.
“We’re looking at that internally, I think that’s some work that we’ll be doing as we work through the lead-up to and the implementation of the waste levy,” he said.
“These sorts of industries, including a form of renewable energy, or a different form of energy-production, that’s one of the technological pathways of this century, how we harness that sort of innovation to re-use products in a world that benefits our climate and our local domestic environments.”
Queensland Environment Minister Leeanne Enoch said China’s decision to restrict the importation of recycling had a huge impact across the globe and Australia needed a long-term national solution.
“China has been the largest importer of recycled goods the world has been accessing for quite some time,” she said.
