Western Bulldogs premiership hero Liam Picken has retired after being unable to overcome lingering symptoms of concussion.

Picken, 32, hadn’t played since last year’s preseason when he suffered a head knock in a game against Hawthorn. Picken had already been troubled with concussion, knocked out in a sickening incident against Fremantle in early 2017.

Picken told teammates of his decision on Monday. A late starter, he finishes his career with 198 games and was influential in the Dogs’ drought-breaking premiership win of 2016.
