Speaking to journalists outside the courtroom, State Prosecutor Matan Akiba called the cases unprecedented and of the highest-ever priority for the District Attorney.

“This has never happened before in the legal history of the State of Israel, that a defendant in an extradition case has been found unfit for trial… and then evidence has been found that she was faking and the procedure renewed.”

Manny Waks, CEO of Kol v’Oz, which works to prevent child sexual abuse in the global Jewish community, said he felt encouraged by the prosecution’s remarks.

“I felt that the state is committed to doing everything it can to ensure that Leifer does face justice,” he said, adding that although the struggle continues with “another hearing, [and] another delay, the wheels of justice are turning slowly.”
