Ms Plibersek also said she broadly supports standardised tests such as NAPLAN and PISA but backed a review of the NAPLAN tests that a number of state governments, including NSW, are demanding.


“I’m not going to pretend for a second that I’m in the camp of people who say get rid of NAPLAN … I think we need data too,” Ms Plibersek said.


“[But] I’m very supportive of the NAPLAN review that the states have initiated, I think after 10 years it’s right to ask ourselves, are we testing the right things, are we getting information quick enough, is it suitable for all children?”


She also said she supports the continued publication of schools’ NAPLAN performance on the MySchool website.
