Hawthorn winger Isaac Smith concedes the Hawks aren’t the feared AFL unit they have been for much of the past decade after a patchy start to the season.


But in a warning to the rest of the competition, the triple-premiership star says their best is yet to come.

In the aftermath of Hawthorn’s five-point stunner against Carlton, even master coach Alastair Clarkson admitted he was still struggling to figure out where his team sits in the 2019 pecking order.


The Hawks, who are yet to notch successive wins this season, are 11th on the ladder with a 3-3 record but are also just one win behind second-placed Fremantle.
