It was meant to be a light-hearted Christmas selfie but First Lady Melania Trump has come under fire for a photo she shared on Instagram.
The festive selfie for Christmas Day has sparked a social media debate of what should be expected from the US First Lady.
The selfie, shared on the official FLOTUS Instagram account, shows Ms Trump wearing a Santa hat.
A filter had been applied to the photo to show illuminated flying reindeer.
The photo was captioned ‘#MerryChristmas’.
Ms Trump’s photo has received thousands of retweets since it was posted – along with plenty of comments debating whether the photo was appropriate for a First Lady.
Some felt the photo was poor taste:
Unless you’re one of the millions poor and deprived by wealthy scum.

Disgraceful for a First Lady, Christmas or not. You look like a model on a photo shoot for the front page of Hustler. I’m sure the elderly and poor will appreciate this photo given how you and hubby don’t care about them, only your millionaire friends at Mar-a-Largo.

Others applauded the image:
So beautiful! Merry Christmas! Keep on being you!

On Christmas Eve the White House shared a photo of President Trump and the first lady making phone calls to children across the US.
The calls were made at the president’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach where he helped track Santa Claus’ movements with the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) Santa Tracker.
