'Cancel Vanity Fair': Magazine accused of sexism after Hillary Clinton knitting video

Lifestyle and fashion magazine Vanity Fair said it “missed the mark” after a satirical video of staff suggesting numerous New Year’s resolutions for Hillary Clinton caused a stir on social media.
The video showed staff suggesting six New Year’s resolutions to Ms Clinton, following her 2016 presidential election loss to US President Donald Trump.
Some of the suggestions included “It’s time to start working on your sequel to your book, “What Happened: What the Hell Happened” and “Get someone on your tech staff to disable autofill on your iPhone so that typing in F doesn’t become ‘Form Exploratory Committee for 2020′”.
But the suggestion that struck a chord with most social media users was the remark: “Take up a new hobby in the new year: volunteer work, knitting, improv comedy – literally anything that will keep you from running again.”
Ms Clinton’s former staffers, actors and social media users took aim at Vanity Fair for the video.
Democratic strategist and Ms Clinton’s former aide Peter Daou called the video a “cheap shot” in a tweet.
While her former adviser, Adam Parkhomenko, posted an image of a Vanity Fair on the fire on Twitter.
Vanity Fair is like….we are just going to sit here quietly and pretend we didn’t do that hit video on Hillary as droves unsubscribe tell their friends, family, and neighbors to do the same.
Good marketing strategy.

I rarely have any strong views, or any at all as to Vanity Fair, expectations and interest too low, but that thing on Clinton? WTF? Not just *stupidly* sexist but also explicitly, smugly ageist. You have decades of accumulated global experience too offer? Go knit.

Despite the outrage, Fox News labelled the criticism as “liberal backlash”.
Some social media users found nothing wrong with the video and also blamed the stir on “liberal outrage”.
Vanity Fair simply did exactly what the rest of the Democratic Party needs to do: distance itself from one of the least liked candidates their party has ever had.

A Vanity Fair spokesperson released a statement on Wednesday following the video claiming it had “missed the mark”.
“It was an attempt at humor and we regret that it missed the mark,” the magazine’s statement read.
In another jibe at Ms Clinton, Mr Trump also turned to Twitter and blasted Vanity Fair for “apologising”.
“Vanity Fair, which looks like it is on its last legs, is bending over backwards in apologising for the minor hit they took at Crooked H. Anna Wintour, who was all set to be Amb to Court of St James’s a big fundraiser for CH, is beside herself in grief begging for forgiveness!” he tweeted.
Many social media commentators also took aim at Mr Trump pointing out Anna Wintour is the editor-in-chief of Vogue, not Vanity Fair.
