A 43-year-old Corrective Services NSW officer has been suspended from his job after pretending to be a police officer to get a discount on fast food.

Police were contacted following reports that an off-duty police officer had demanded a discount from staff at the fast-food restaurant about 12.40pm on Saturday.

After an investigation, the man was arrested at his place of work at Surry Hills police centre cells about 10.40am on Monday, police said.

He was charged with impersonating a police officer and obtaining a benefit by deception.

The man was granted strict conditional bail and is due to appear at Waverley Local Court on January 22.
