His exit was a shock to everyone, particularly considering to this day he maintains he had no knowledge of Warner and Bancroft’s plan to change the condition of the ball. Lehmann was contracted until after next year’s World Cup and Ashes and given his favourable record with the side, it was a shame he wasn’t able to see it out until the end.


The big controversy


While the Longstaff Review was very much a watershed moment for the game, the ongoing discussion point since March was the suspensions of Smith, Warner and Bancroft.


Many believed the 12-month suspensions handed down to the captain and vice-captain were extremely harsh, particularly given they were banned from playing domestic cricket as well. What a stupid look it was, however, to see the two running around in the Global Canada T20 League.

The current cap has been set at 190,000 since 2011, but the actual intake fell to its lowest level in a decade under the Coalition government  during the past financial year, with just 163,000 permanent arrivals.
