Mr and Mrs White, 69 and 66 years old, have run 40 and 34 Canberra Times Fun Runs respectively and will add another this year.


“A bloke at work told me about the fun run and I thought, you know this sounds good, so I came home and told Maria and we just haven’t stopped,” Mr White said.


Mrs White, who holds the record for participating in the most Canberra Times Fun Runs for women, will be walking this year because of a “bung knee”.


“I’m a little disappointed to be walking again because I love running you know, you just go out on the hills and you’re running and you see all the animals around, the kangaroos and the birds flying it’s very relaxing and it’s very pretty,” she said.

The current cap has been set at 190,000 since 2011, but the actual intake fell to its lowest level in a decade under the Coalition government  during the past financial year, with just 163,000 permanent arrivals.
