The husband of a Sydney woman who died after being doused in petrol and set alight nearly four years ago has been arrested.

Parwinder Kaur, 32, died in December 2013 after suffering full thickness burns to 90 per cent of her body at a Rouse Hill house.

Police arrested the woman’s 37-year-old husband on Wednesday morning at his Rouse Hill home and he’s now being questioned.

Superintendent Rob Critchlow, from The Hill Police, told a press conference on Wednesday morning the man will soon be charged with one count of murder.

“We have worked tirelessly to gather evidence of what actually occurred. The investigation has been painstaking and today we can announce that we’ve arrested a 37-year-old man from Kellyville and he is now assisting detectives with their inquiries and will soon be charged with one count of murder and appear before the Parramatta local court this afternoon,” Superintendent Critchlow said.

“The process was very painstaking it took a long time because it was so complex. There were no third-party witnesses to the matter and we relied heavily on specialist analysis of the evidence,” he added.

The family told police they were relieved and were comforted with the extensive investigation into the murder.

A 2015 inquest into the woman’s death heard the couple had spoken about divorce and Ms Kaur’s husband had, on several occasions, threatened to kill his wife.

The couple again argued about family finances on the afternoon Ms Kaur died, the inquest heard.

Shortly after the fight, Ms Kaur telephoned triple-zero. Her call was then suddenly terminated.

Minutes later, Ms Kaur’s neighbours reported hearing a “blood-curdling scream”.

They emerged from their homes in the western Sydney suburb of Rouse Hill to see what one described as a “ball of fire”.

The husband was seen running after her and patting her as if to put out the flames.

The man is at Castle Hill Police Station and police will address media later in the morning.
