The digital currency Bitcoin has hit $US10,000 ($A14,000) for the first time after multiplying its value by 10 since the beginning of 2017.

According to cryptocurrency digital platforms, Luxembourg-based Bitstamp and Coindesk, Bitcoin reached $US10,300 ($A14,420) on Tuesday, rising by more than four per cent compared to Monday.

The virtual currency has experienced a boom in value since the beginning of 2017 when it was trading around $US1,000 ($A1,400), and has risen over 50 per cent since October.

Some analysts pointed out the value of the virtual currency might rise to between $US11,500 ($A16,100) and $US14,000 ($A19,600) during 2018, while others warned the cryptocurrency could prove to be a market bubble.

Would you accept bitcoin as a form of payment for the sale of your house? One vendor is doing just that – at a time when the value of the cryptocurrency recently hit another record.
