Australia wants to become a major arms exporter with Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull unveiling a new plan that will target markets across the globe, including the Middle East and the US.
The Turnbull government wants to significantly increase its current $1.5bn to $2.5bn defence industry exports, as it pushes Australia to become one of the world’s top 10 weapons exporters within the next decade, according to media reports on Monday.
Other priority markets for Australian arms include Canada, the UK, New Zealand and the Indo-Pacific.
A $3.8bn Defence Export Facility will assist companies wanting to find overseas markets as the Coalition establishes its new Defence Export Office.
